Many customers want to use their business VoIP numbers with WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business. However, WhatsApp has strict rules around number verification, and VoIP numbers cannot be activated directly.
WhatsApp’s automated systems detect and block VoIP numbers that attempt to register without proper validation.
To ensure WhatsApp accepts your number, the number must first be ported out.
Follow these steps in order to avoid WhatsApp blocking your number:
Your VoIP number needs to be ported out from our system to a carrier that WhatsApp recognizes.
Do not attempt to register the number on WhatsApp during or before the port.
Once the port-out is fully completed, the number must be added to a Meta Business Account:
You can add the newly ported number directly into your own Meta Business Manager.
Open a support ticket with us and request that we add the number to our Meta account on your behalf.
This step significantly speeds up the process and signals to WhatsApp that the number is associated with a valid business.
After:
✔ The number has been successfully ported out
✔ The number has been added to a Meta Business Account
You must wait at least 4 hours before attempting to register the number in WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business.
Trying sooner can result in the number being blocked again by WhatsApp’s automated systems.
WhatsApp blocks VoIP numbers by default.
You must port the number out before WhatsApp will accept it.
Only after porting should the number be added to Meta (your account or ours).
Do not attempt WhatsApp activation for 4 hours after the Meta addition.
Following these steps ensures your number activates smoothly and avoids issues with WhatsApp verification.
